About YUVA VIKASH KENDRA

Empowering Women & Youth and Transforming Communities through Gandhian Values

Established in 2014 in Agartala, Tripura, Yuva Vikash Kendra (YVK) is a youth-led, community-based organization inspired by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and the teachings of Dr. S.N. Subbarao, a renowned Gandhian thinker. Founded by three young visionaries and currently led by Debashis Majumder, YVK has grown into a dynamic platform for youth engagement and rural development across Tripura and the broader Northeast region of India. With a dedicated volunteer base of over 2,000 individuals and now five trustee and an Executive Committee of twenty seven members from eight district of Tripura, YVK is committed to fostering inclusive, sustainable, and value-driven development.

YVK’s work is grounded in four strategic pillars: reconnecting youth with Gandhian ideals to encourage civic responsibility; promoting self-reliance among vulnerable rural populations; supporting the holistic development of tribal communities; and facilitating cross-cultural exchange to strengthen national and global integration. These pillars are not only central to YVK’s philosophy but are operationalized through practical, community-centered interventions.

In addition to its core focus, YVK addresses critical development challenges across several sectors. The organization champions environmental sustainability through awareness campaigns and grassroots initiatives. It offers vocational training and skill development programs to increase youth employability in both rural and urban settings. Targeted initiatives for women and youth empower marginalized groups with access to education, healthcare, and leadership development. YVK also promotes agricultural innovation by introducing sustainable and integrated farming techniques to improve productivity and resilience. Furthermore, the organization actively supports cultural tourism by highlighting Tripura’s unique heritage and resources.

Over the past decade, YVK has demonstrated significant impact. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it provided essential relief to over 10,000 families. In 2022, it launched the “Sadbhavana Yatra,” a 53-day national journey undertaken by 12 youth ambassadors to promote peace and celebrate Tripura’s cultural identity. Through initiatives in tribal areas, YVK has enabled indigenous families to achieve economic independence and social dignity. Its flagship event, the international “Heritage Fest,” continues to foster global youth engagement and cultural dialogue.

YVK upholds the highest standards of governance and accountability. The organization operates with transparency in financial and operational systems, and prioritizes inclusiveness, gender sensitivity, and community participation in all its initiatives. Through its Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework, YVK ensures continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making.

As YVK looks to the future, its commitment remains rooted in non-violence, social equity, and youth-led change. It invites global partners, institutions, and individuals to collaborate in advancing its mission of building a just, self-reliant, and empowered Northeast India. YVK is not just a name – it is a movement for lasting change.
